12-1-2008 World Junior Championships semifinals
World Junior Championships have reached semifinal stage. In the first semifinal on January 14th, Team Russia will meet Team USA . In the second clash, Team Slovakia will challenge Team Canada. Winners from both games will meet on January 16th in the final game to decide the 2008 World Champion of icehockey.

A native of Sweden, Daniel Alfredsson was originally drafted to the NHL by the Ottawa Senators in the 6th round of the 1994 entry draft. He has appeared in 735 NHL games during his career, notching 274 goals and adding 426 assists along with 325 penalty minutes. The 35 year old left wing has played 29 games with the Nashville Predators this season, totalling 12+16=28 with 16 PIM.

Sergei Gonchar() scored the 500th point of his career in tonight's game against the Atlanta Thrashers on a goal by Sidney Crosby. In a game like this, it was nice to set that milestone, he commented during a post game radio interview..

A native of Russia, Sergei Gonchar was originally drafted to the NHL by the Washington Capitals in the 1st round of the 1992 entry draft. He has appeared in 784 NHL games during his career, notching 165 goals and adding 335 assists along with 669 penalty minutes. The 33 year old defenseman has played 40 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins this season, totalling 5+12=17 with 40 PIM.
